How old do I have to be?

You must be at least 16 years old to audition.

How do I prepare?

You don’t need to prepare a monologue, come in costume, or bring in head shots and a resume. You just show up and we’ll walk you through the rest.

13th Floor Haunted House is a world-famous haunted attraction and therefore we need talented, high energy scare actors with stamina to entertain our guests every show night!

Actors, and actresses work in and around the haunted house performing for visitors. The acting departments include the three attractions inside the haunted house and the Lot Monster team that entertains visitors white they wait in line to enter the show.

Interested performers must attend a group audition where they’ll get a chance to show off their scaring skills! No experience required; however, acting roles require a very high level of energy, stamina, and positive attitude.

Candidates with full availability or close to it are more likely to be selected due to our busy schedule. You will be asked to fill out an availability calendar at the hiring session. Positions will be filled on a first-come, first-considered basis – meaning that you have a better chance of getting a role by attending an earlier audition/interview. Auditions and interviews run RAIN OR SHINE.

All auditions are held at 13th Floor Haunted House Denver, unless otherwise noted below.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you are able to move freely and be active in.

Should I come in costume?

No, you don’t need to wear a costume. We actually prefer that you don’t.

What is the audition process like?

When you show up we’ll have you fill out an application, then walk you through what we do here and what we’re looking for. After that we’ll bring you to a scene and have you show us how you’d scare in the haunted house.

13TH Floor Haunted House prides itself not only on its entertainment value, but also on its exceptional customer service. Whether visitors are parking, buying tickets, getting into line, screaming in the haunted house, shopping for souvenirs, or enjoying food and drinks, we want them to have a first-class experience.

We need friendly and energetic employees to make all of this possible! Applicants for customer service and operations positions must attend a group interview. Please read the descriptions that follow to decide which position best suits you. You will be asked to rank your top choices when filling out an application on site. Applicants for customer service and operations roles are encouraged, but not required to bring a resume to their interview.

PARKING LOT ATTENDANTS:

This team works outside in the parking lot located on 13th Floor Property. Attendants will direct parking, orient visitors and answer questions about the show. This team hands out information sheets, collects parking vouchers, and assists guests with directions. They do not collect cash. Excellent customer service skills required.

EVENT STAFF:

Our Event Staff helps orient visitors when they arrive at the haunted house property. They work near our main entrance, guiding guests and groups through the entry process by helping them find the appropriate line, answering event questions, checking tickets, and providing exceptional customer service. At times, event staff will serve as ushers sending small groups into the haunted house at prescribed time intervals. Some event staff also assist with small onsite operations such as the Mini-Escape Games and Photo Opportunities. This position requires energy and patience!

BOX OFFICE CASHIERS:

Members of our Box Office team sell tickets to customers at the Box Office. This position requires a friendly, upbeat attitude and an ability to focus in a hectic environment. Cash handling experience is required for cashier positions.

RETAIL SALES CASHIERS:

Our retail staff spends a lot of time at the cash register. This team also organizes and sells our line of 13th Floor merchandise. Customer service skills and cash handling experience are required.

PHOTOGRAPHERS AND PHOTO SALES CASHIERS:

Our photo team helps create and capture memorable moments for our guests by taking and selling photos of our guests. Customer service skills and cash handling experience are required. Photography experience is preferred.

BARTENDERS:

Before or after walking through the show, visitors have the option to visit The Shreikeasy Bar or purchase food and drink while waiting in line. Responsibilities of bar staff include setting up/wiping down tables and chairs, greeting guests, bartending, serving food, and cleanup. This is a great opportunity for people who have prior experience working in a bar or restaurant but want to throw a creepy creative spin on it! Must have bartending certification prior to first show night.

CUSTODIAL STAFF:

While it’s critical that every staff member keeps their area tidy, we have a specific position with the task of cleaning during the event. The custodian will maintain cleanliness of all areas of the property including both inside the haunted house and outside in the parking lot. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, wiping down tables, picking up debris, emptying trash and recycling, replacing can liners, servicing restrooms as necessary and other duties as assigned.

SAFETY AND SURVEILLANCE TEAM:

The safety and surveillance team is positioned at checkpoints throughout the property and in our control room watching live camera footage. In addition to this safety focused team, we work with a third-party security firm as well as local law enforcement. Our S&S Team helps orient visitors, answer guests’ questions, and keep an eye out for situations that should be brought to the attention of our third-party security team or the police. This team also assists scared guests by escorting them out of the attractions. Our goal is to de-escalate any tense situations to ensure that all guests and staff always remain safe. This position requires a friendly, upbeat attitude and patience.

MAKEUP ARTISTS

MAKEUP ARTISTS

It takes a stellar, hard-working team of Special FX makeup artists about three hours to prepare a cast of more than 50 performers every show night. Applicants must be able to manage their time wisely. This is a fast-paced, fun environment, and the timing of the makeup crew is essential.

Applicants must at least possess skills in basic special effects makeup. A preferred knowledge of and hands-on experience with airbrush, cream makeup, prosthetic application, Endura airbrush makeup, gelatin and silicone appliances, and Pros Aide transfers.

Makeup artists selected will have the opportunity to work with the some of the best products available in a professional haunted house setting. Character looks are pre-designed for each character before show opening. New makeup artists will be trained on how to achieve these looks using safe and sanitary techniques. Applicants should be able to remain calm and patience in a semi-chaotic environment.
